Afregelen

What is regulation (piano afregelen)? Why is it important? As much as the piano must sound good, the piano must feel as good to play. Have you ever encountered keys that were sluggish to react, had unequal timing or had an annoying hard tap at the fingertip? Or maybe it’s that not all the keys feel and sound the same. It’s possible your keys, dampers and hammers look like a set of bad teeth. In which case, regulation might be right for you.

Small regulation procedures such as lost motion, capstan and backcheck touch-ups are generally included with tuning, but deeper regulation is recommended for pianos that need a more detailed approach, which involves a comprehensive 37-step regulation (leveling keys, blow distance, let-off, checking springs).
